I went to a lecture today with David Colquhoun, who is an outspoken opponent of pseudoscience in all of its forms. He's particularly infuriated by "alternative" medicine and corporate influence on academic science. To get an idea of what I mean, see the following example from his blog. His "talk" was actually more of a hilarious rant about how scientists (and physicians) need to be more critical of the type of science/medicine they are supporting. I couldn't agree with this more, and recommend checking out his blog for anyone who is as infuriated by "bullshit science" as I am.

Well color me pleasantly surprised.

I really only checked this out because of Ellis, and I'm already positive that these little 5 minute animated shorts are better than the upcoming live action movie will be. The voice acting and animation quality are fairly standard, but I feel like the part of me who says "why didn't they just spend that budget on better writing" during shitty shows/movies actually got his wish with this.

So this picture is not from Coraline. It's from Captain Eo. Which up until this weekend was my favorite 3D movie of all time (for obvious reasons). Now that I am old and jaded it's not very often that I get that magical kid-at-Disney-world feeling anymore, but Coraline delivered on that in spades. It's a movie from one of my new favorite directors(Edgar Wright) about one of my new favorite comics(see title), and I'm...cautiously pessimistic. I've been following it for a while, but now the almost full cast has been chosen, and includes superman.

They still haven't cast Kim Pine, but otherwise they're all locked in. The one sentiment I've heard alot that I agree with is that Michael Cera really does play the same role in every movie he's in, but don't adaptations just always open the door for bitching?
